Craig Mod posted a beautiful ode to the Fitbit in his The Morning News article “Paris and the Data Mind”.
Hard to the west of Palo Alto are mountains. One day I climbed them and that night—Lord help me—I looked at my Fitbit. It was 9 p.m. and the device told me I was at 96 flights of stairs.
There was no question in my mind; I had to even the number out. The only problem: Palo Alto is flat.
Thinking fast—there was no time to spare, as the count would reset at midnight—I dashed to the only set of steps I could think of: the Mexican restaurant Reposado.
The limited clearly visible Nike+ FuelBand ICE edition is now available at London’s Boxpark, the House of Innovation at Selfridges and New York’s 21 Mercer Street. You can buy the Nike+ FuelBand also online via the Nike Store and Amazon.com.
One strong competitor and even more known fitness tracking device is the Fitbit Ultra. It comes for only $99.95 and is, thanks to its size and clip, very comfortable to wear in your pocket, waist or bra. As the Nike+ FuelBand fitness tracker the Fitbit Ultra accurately tracks your steps, calories burned and the time. Beyond that it tracks the distance you walked, how many floors or hills you climbed throughout the day and even works as a stopwatch. On top you can wear it while you sleep to demystify your sleep cycle. Over time, you know your sleep pattern, which helps to determine the best time to get up.
I’ve used the Fitbit Ultra one-month exclusive and didn’t touch my beloved Nike+ FuelBand. First I felt a little bored, because I was used to the aestehtic interface of the FuelBand wristband, but after one week I saw the advantages. It’s more than steps and calories burned. Distance, stair tracking and of course the sleep tracker are game changers! They fulfill the product and provide additional value.
The Fitbit Ultra is lightweight and small, comfortable to wear, affordable, accurate and interactive. As the Nike+ FuelBand it sync wirelessly with the Fitbit.com web application and you can share your success with friends. You can also join public groups to ask questions and get advice from people with similar fitness goals. Furthermore you can logging individual foods and workouts with the web application or the free iPhone and Android app. This is a huge advantage over the FuelBand and the thing I like most – the Fitbit Ultra is developed further.

Fitness Tracker HQ First Impression
Michael and I aren’t so much into the transparent look, we both like the original Nike+ FuelBand way better. Nevertheless it’s cool to see inside the product and view the technology that makes the digital firework work. Wheter you like the original or the ICE edition better, both are great and visual aesthetic fitness tracking devices.
Procrastination is the thief of time, and I was the king of it. Sadly, but true. Fortunately things changed rapidly as I met Brandon two years ago. I had weighed way to much and wasn’t healthy at all. Brandon helped me out of my depressive time and showed me how to have fun again with the game I loved and lived before my car accident (I had broken both legs) – Basketball.
After six months, I was in the best shape of my life. Brandon and I were ballin' every single day and we both have made new friends. Right now I’m feeling happier than ever before. I’m fulfilled and pleased to be alive. Sport brought me back and my advice to our readers in a similar situation is – start today! It doesn’t matter if you’re overweight, it doesn’t matter what other people are thinking of you, this is your life and you live it just once, so consider to make the best out of it.
Nike entered the new-age fitness tracking device market with a digital firework – the Nike+ FuelBand. An elegant wristband with only one button. Hit it and the LED lights flash awake red, yellow and green to showing your fuel (Nike activity points), calories burned, steps and even the time. The more you move the more fuel you earn. It’s really motivating and pushed me to continuously setting up higher goals.

Using It
Using the activity and fitness tracker from Nike feels a little like the early iPhone days. It’s inconspicuous and minimal designed, but if turned on, it’s blowing your mind with an impressive interface. For example Michael made a cool experience while wearing his FuelBand on a night out, which ended in many eye-catching moments and discussions thanks to the futuristic fitness tracker.
What I also love about the Nike+ FuelBand is that you’ll use it without thinking about using it. Set your daily goal, wear and forget about it. So simple. Everyday actions, like running, walking, dancing, basketball, having sex – and dozens more, are tracked through a sport-tested accelerometer and then translated into fuel. You can also sync the wristband wirelessly with the free Nike+ FuelBand mobile app (via Bluetooth) to track your progress or compete with friends. Michael and I noticed that the latter is an additional boost to be even more active. So it’s pretty nice that Nike try to make us more active with social competition – and it works!

Should You Buy the Nike+ FuelBand?
We’re really amazed by the amazing interface. It looks futuristic and is at the same time very user-friendly. Please consider not to wear it while showering, because it’s only water resistant and not waterproof. Besides that it’s nearly perfect. So if you want to be more active and to becoming more healthy, or need more motivation for your workout routines, you should buy a FuelBand. It’s a brilliant fitness tracker from Nike and doubles as a watch and calorie counter. On top, the battery life is original listed at 4 days, but we both got more than a week of usage off one charge.
